Urgency to Pray

Recently, in light of everything that is going on in our church, I felt a greater urgency for prayer – not only in my life but corporately, as a whole church. Prayer is one of those things that do not need any explanation but it is so hard for believers to engage. It is not constantly on our minds but when we don’t experience the communion with God for some time then we feel the affects of it.

It is kind of like breathing. We don’t think about it. In fact, it is instinctively done but when we are underwater we feel the affects of not being able to breathe.

When there is spiritual warfare, it is like being submersed underwater. We find ourselves frantically swing our arms and legs to get some air. We start to realize the importance of getting to the surface to take a breath. It is in that moment we really start thinking about the importance of breathing and air.

This reminds me of the song that has been on my heart more recently:

This is the air I breathe
This is the air I breathe
Your holy presence
Living in me

This is my daily bread
This is my daily bread
Your very word
Spoken to me

And I… I’m desperate for you
And I… I’m lost without you
